California wine is the highest quality wine produced and distributed in the nation. The state of California is home to over 700 wineries. California is the largest source of American wine by far, producing 90 percent of all US grown wine. The ideal humidity, soil conditions and temperature provides one of the best environments for winemaking. In both Napa Valley and Monterey, two of the more well known growing regions, wine lovers will contest to the fact that California wines are of the highest prestige.
When it comes to red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa is still considered the premier growing region. Twenty miles north across the bay from San Francisco, Napa is one of the warmer, drier regions on the California coast. This unique weather and hotter growing season is key to producing
premier Napa wine which is in great demand. California is mostly known for its amazingly fine white wine, and its exquisite
California cabernet sauvignon.
In Monterey County, distinctive combinations of soil, climate and proximity to the cool Pacific Ocean create a variety of growing conditions - conditions that present unique challenges and have inspired creativity and experimentation in the ways that wine is made and grown.
The combination of warm days and cool, foggy nights provides for an extended growing season of approximately one month. This extra "hang time" translates into smaller grapes with very concentrated fruit flavors. The finest of Monterey wine varietals grown is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The
Pinot Noir vines produce some incredibly tasting wines with big berry notes and spice. The chardonnays produced fom the Central Coast of California are more tropical in nature with notes of pineapple, mango and passion fruit.
In addition to Monterey and Napa wines, Wine from the Heart also carries fine wine from other parts of California (e.g. Sonoma, Dry Creek, Paso Robles, Amador County, Russian River, Santa Barbara, Cameros, Santa Cruz, etc.)
